Connecting Communities Grant

Small actions have huge impact….
We know the damaging effect that loneliness can have on older people’s lives.  The best way to tackle this is by getting people involved and connected within their communities.  This can be through group based activities or by engaging people with a shared interest. 

If you are part of a group or small organisation in East Riding of Yorkshire with an idea for a project or activities to help combat social isolation and/or improve the health and wellbeing for people aged 50 plus then we may be able to help.

What is the Connecting Communities grant scheme?

The Connecting Communities Grant is a time limited grant (1-3 years).  It is a partnership between the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

What are the aims/objectives of the scheme?

The aims/objectives of the scheme are as follows:

  • Stimulates, encourages and supports community activity that contributes to addressing loneliness and isolation for older people with emerging health and social care needs.
  • Generates social return on community investment
  • Participants in the funded projects/activities report improved quality of life as a consequence of being involved in the activity
  • Promotes independence and supports self-management and self-care

Who can apply?

Organisations, voluntary and community groups working/based within the East Riding of Yorkshire who want to develop community based projects/activities for older people 50+.
What activities can/cannot be funded?

The panel will consider funding projects and activities for older people which encourage participation, improved physical and mental wellbeing, reduces isolation and loneliness. 

How much can be applied for?

The amount which can be applied for is discretionary

How is an application made?

Applications can be made by completion of an application form which is available from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council website.

How will applications be assessed?

Through the Connecting Communities Grant Panel which meets monthly.  Applicants will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible thereafter.

What will the grant panel be looking for?
Applicants must demonstrate that the project/activity promotes independence, physical and mental well-being and supports an individual to develop/maintain their social networks and be self-sustaining once grant funding has ceased.
