Our plans and progress
In 2017, the Government gave each local authority a direct grant called Improved Better Care (iBCF). This is to be spent on local Better Care initiatives that deliver three key purposes:
- Meeting adult social care needs
- Reducing pressures on the NHS, including supporting more people to be discharged from hospital when they are ready
- Ensuring that the local social care provider market is supported

The 2014 Better Care Fund (BCF) was a national Government initiative to transfer pools of money from acute health services to community-based care.
East Riding of Yorkshire has its own BCF plan specific to our area and residents’ needs.
